Do you ever forget to bring your offering? Did you know that you can CPC offers Pre-Authorized Donations (aka PAD) so that you don’t need to remember to bring your offering every week?

PAD is a great program that allows you to have your regular offering debited from your chequing account each month or charged to your credit card. You can designate ay amount that you want and can even include offerings that you want to give towards mission work, the building fund, thanksgiving, etc.

You can change the amount whenever you like and of course you can always give additional offerings using your regular offering envelope.

What I like about this program is that you always have your offering designated every month which can be a struggle for some. It’s also very convenient because you don’t need to remember to bring your offering each week.

If you would like to participate, you can download the form here and place it in the offering basket or submit it to the church office on Sunday. Don’t forget to include a blank cheque if you want to have it debited from your chequing account.

For more information, please feel free to contact Steve Chong, Bill Wong or anyone on the Board of Managers.

On Sunday, we celebrated 98 years of being Toronto Chinese Presbyterian Church - wow! Plans are already underway for our centennial celebration in 2010. Stay tuned for all the details!

We celebrated with a combined service held in English and Cantonese. Pastor Tom Eng reminded us why the church exists. I found it particularly relevant as sometimes we can get so caught up in church activities and just life in general that it is easy to forget what our purpose is as a church.

Here’s a quick summary:

the church is called to…

Celebrate God’s presence - WORSHIP

Communicate God’s grace -EVANGELISM

Incorporate God’s family - FELLOWSHIP

Educate God’s people - DISCIPLESHIP

Demonstrate God’s love - MINISTRY

Pastor Tom also reminded us that God wants us to give our best to others. He has given us all gifts so that we can use them to help the church fulfill it’s calling.

What are your particular gifts? Which of the five purposes above are you most passionate about? Speak with Pastor Tom or any church leader to see how you can get involved. See you at the centennial celebration!

In August, many CPCers went up to Sherkston Shores for what is now becoming our annual Summer Retreat!

The retreat’s purpose is to allow CPC members and friends to escape the grind of life and enjoy time together in fellowship and alone with God. So, there is lots of free time to enjoy the facilities and outdoor activities.

Here were some lessons that were learned that weekend:

“I learned about the importance of flexibility. We often need to be willing to change our plans when God does not do what we expect. It rained on our Sunday worship service (we held it outdoors). But we were able to worship in spite of the rain, and it quickly cleared.” ~Pastor Tom Eng

“No matter how busy your week is, finding the time to spend with God is priceless and he will give you peace in your heart to continue on.” ~Dickie Lee

And some favourite memories:

“My most memorable moments include walking along the entire length of the Sherkston Shores beach (about 3 miles) enjoying God’s creation and talking to Him.” ~Pastor Tom Eng

“My favourite memory is alwaysmaking new friends and fellowship with other Christians.” ~Dickie Lee

We hope that you will join us next year!

See below for some photos from the Retreat! (Photos courtesy of Dickie Lee)
